Work on fiscal 2027 legislation is moving at a fast clip, with the Senate poised to release its first bills of the year and the House planning more action in committee and on the floor.

The House Appropriations Committee is looking to approve its Interior-Environment and Transportation bills this week. And on the House floor, lawmakers are poised to clear the Agriculture-Rural Development proposal after passing the Military Construction-Veterans Affairs title last month.

This week’s markup on the House Interior-Environment bill will likely be an hourslong affair, with Democrats planning to use the session to push back on key elements of President Donald Trump’s agenda — particularly what critics see as a moratorium on renewable energy project approvals.

Appropriations Chair Tom Cole (R-Okla.) praised the legislation before subcommittee passage along party lines. “It reduces regulatory burdens, protects American jobs and unleashes domestic energy,” Cole said.
