William Doffermyre was confirmed by the Senate in September.

The Interior Department’s chief lawyer resigned last week and will work as a consultant on a plan to rescue a Canadian mining company caught in the tumult of U.S. sanctions on Cuba.

William Doffermyre, who was confirmed by the Senate as Interior’s solicitor in September after joining the administration in February 2025, resigned Friday, according to a person familiar with his employment who was granted anonymity to talk about personnel matters.

An Interior spokesperson confirmed his departure, saying Doffermyre “is a dedicated public servant who took time away from family to serve in the Trump administration.”

“We are grateful for his service to our great nation and wish him all the best as he rejoins the private sector and spends more time with his family in Texas,” the spokesperson said.
