Interior Secretary Doug Burgum will be the marquee energy and environment witness this week as lawmakers continue combing through the administration’s fiscal and policy plans.

House appropriators are also preparing to release and mark up more fiscal 2027 spending bills, including plans for the departments of State and Agriculture.

Lawmakers will be keen on asking Burgum about plans to further downsize the department, including proposals to cut National Park Service staffing by almost 3,000 positions.

There will also be questions about merging the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management with the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement — a topic that has yet to generate much attention on Capitol Hill.
