Rep. Jared Huffman has ambitions to lead the House Natural Resources Committee. He’s done holding back about it.
Huffman — a progressive Democrat representing California’s North Coast — has served on the panel for 12 years. In that time, he has risen to become one of the committee’s most prominent members, known for bludgeoning fossil fuel interests and fighting for climate change science.
Huffman’s colleagues widely believe he could someday lead Democrats on the committee, something he has not previously publicly said he wanted. But in an interview with POLITICO’s E&E News this week, Huffman put the rumors to rest: When his time comes, he’s in.
“I think it’s no secret that I would love to chair this committee,” Huffman said. “It was my dream, that’s why I came to Congress with this as my goal.”
