The Trump admin wants to walk back a key permit for the project but asked the court for more time to analyze a separate order rebuking the government’s anti-renewable policies.

The Trump administration on Thursday signaled to a federal judge that a recent court order blocking anti-renewable energy policies may hinder the government’s attempt to pull back a key permit for a wind project off the coast of Massachusetts.

During a telephone conference Thursday before a federal court in Washington, Justice Department attorney Peter Dykema requested an additional 30 days to consider how a preliminary injunction issued Tuesday by a federal judge in Massachusetts would affect the administration’s request to walk back federal approval for Avangrid’s New England Wind 1 project.

“I’m not in a position to say whether the request [for remand] should be withdrawn or denied,” Dykema told the court.

Judge Amir Ali did not agree to the timeline during the call but said he would issue an order at a later point. He also directed the parties to come up with a joint briefing schedule by April 30 to address the merits of the case.
