Kristi Noem has a new priority in addition to confronting drug cartels in South America: mining.
During a wide-ranging interview Tuesday with Fox News’ “Mornings with Maria,” the former Homeland Security secretary discussed her work advising a mining firm and acting as a newly appointed “special envoy to Shield of the Americas” for the Trump administration.
President Donald Trump created the position for Noem in March to target drug cartels, drug trafficking and migration in the Western hemisphere after firing her as Homeland Security secretary amid backlash over her involvement in a border security ad campaign and other controversies.
She was the highest administration official to leave during Trump’s second term, and has since been replaced at DHS by former Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.).
