Congress on Wednesday approved legislation to provide financial relief to victims of natural disasters.

The “Federal Disaster Tax Relief Act,” H.R. 5863, from Rep. Greg Steube (R-Fla.), passed the Senate by unanimous consent. It passed the House 382-7 in May.

The bill would make it easier for people to deduct losses from natural disasters. It would also exempt certain aid relief payments and compensation from taxes.
