Lawmakers press Wright for more transparency on Venezuelan oil

House members used a classified briefing to call for more congressional involvement in the administration’s plans.

House Energy and Commerce Committee lawmakers say they want the Trump administration to be more transparent about its plans for Venezuela and its vast oil reserves.

Energy Secretary Chris Wright was on Capitol Hill on Monday for a classified briefing with members of both parties. Several urged Wright to involve them more.

The United States has controlled Venezuelan oil sales since the administration took military action in the country at the beginning of the year to oust former leader Nicolas Maduro.

“It’s important, I think, for Americans to know, and I was glad to have the updates. … I think it’s all moving in a favorable direction,” said Rep. Julie Fedorchak (R-N.D.) after the briefing.
