LCV scorecard shows big divides in Congress — and one surprise

The League of Conservation Voters’ annual scorecard found one conservative had the highest rating among Senate Republicans.

Lawmakers showed stark party divides last year when voting on key environmental matters, a green group reported Wednesday. Though there was at least one surprise.

Republicans had an average score of just 3 percent in the League of Conservation Voters’ National Environmental Scorecard for 2024, while Democrats and independents averaged 93 percent.

The highest-scoring Republican in the Senate for 2024 was something of an eyebrow-raiser: Rand Paul of Kentucky.

The libertarian joined with Democrats to vote down a veto override of a measure that would roll back President Joe Biden’s waiver for “Made in America” requirements in sourcing electric vehicle charging infrastructure. That vote was enough to get him a 13 percent score. His lifetime score with the group is 9 percent.
