Lawmakers showed stark party divides last year when voting on key environmental matters, a green group reported Wednesday. Though there was at least one surprise.
Republicans had an average score of just 3 percent in the League of Conservation Voters’ National Environmental Scorecard for 2024, while Democrats and independents averaged 93 percent.
The highest-scoring Republican in the Senate for 2024 was something of an eyebrow-raiser: Rand Paul of Kentucky.
The libertarian joined with Democrats to vote down a veto override of a measure that would roll back President Joe Biden’s waiver for “Made in America” requirements in sourcing electric vehicle charging infrastructure. That vote was enough to get him a 13 percent score. His lifetime score with the group is 9 percent.
