A key redwoods conservation nonprofit is losing its CEO at the close of its fiscal year next March, the group announced Tuesday.
Sam Hodder will leave Save the Redwoods League to explore a “next chapter,” the organization said in a news release. Hodder has held the president and CEO role since 2013 and before that spent nearly 20 years with the Trust for Public Land.
Hodder’s 11-year tenure at the league came during “a significant period of growth and transformation,” the organization said.
The league, which is over 100 years old, has long bought redwood forest land from private owners and rehabilitated the areas for conservation and public use. Under Hodder’s leadership, the league conserved more than 34,000 acres of redwood and giant sequoia forests, launched new restoration and trail creation projects, established stewardship coalitions, and raised $139 million through the organization’s first comprehensive fundraising campaign, the group said.
