Senate Energy and Natural Resources Chair Mike Lee is expected to unveil legislation Wednesday that would nullify the Clinton-era roadless rule, opening up road construction and timber harvesting to tens of millions of acres of national forest lands.

Lee’s proposal, a copy of which was obtained by POLITICO’s E&E News, may come up as an amendment to Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso’s (R-Wyo.) S. 140, the “Wildfire Prevention Act,” which would increase annual goals for forest thinning and for prescribed fire.

ENR is expected to take up that bill when it meets Wednesday morning for a markup that is scheduled to include 17 bills, down from an original agenda of 33.
