While a heavy rainstorm drenched Capitol Hill, a crowd in support of federal workers chanted, “Let us work.”
In the six weeks since President Donald Trump reclaimed the executive branch, officials have fired thousands of government workers, frozen or canceled billions of dollars in spending, and cut countless longstanding programs in the name of government efficiency, an effort led by Elon Musk and the so-called Department of Government Efficiency.
Members of the National Treasury Employees Union, which represents thousands of civil servants spanning 37 agencies, from across the country held a rally outside the Senate on Wednesday in protest of the Trump administration’s crackdown. About 100 people attended the rally.
“This is a fight not only for unions, it’s a fight for the civil service, it is a fight for what we do for this country, and it is a fight to save our country,” said NTEU National President Doreen Greenwald.
