Lobbyists urge Republicans to save green subsidies

Advocates have met with GOP lawmakers in recent weeks to make the case that clean energy tax credits are worth salvaging.

As Republicans edge ever closer to complete control of Washington, hundreds of billions of dollars in renewable energy subsidies are in serious danger and lobbyists are in a frantic push to save them.

In recent weeks, climate and energy lobbyists have ramped up their pleas to Republicans from districts that have reaped the benefits of the climate-focused Inflation Reduction Act as well as other Biden administration efforts.

They’ve held meetings with investors and Hill staffers to tout clean energy ventures. And they’ve arranged for lawmaker site visits.

“There is definitely an effort,” said one Senate Republican staffer who was granted anonymity to speak freely. “They didn’t have any asks other than — ‘We’re putting this on your radar.’”
