OTTAWA — Mark Carney, who is a frontrunner in the race to replace Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, is vowing to get rid of Canada’s signature climate policy if he is elected.

The Liberal leadership hopeful said he would replace Canada’s consumer carbon price with green incentives financed by the country’s biggest polluters.

That includes rewards for households making greener choices, such as buying energy-efficient appliances, electric vehicles or improving home insulation, he said.

Carney said he intends to keep Canada’s industrial carbon price since big polluters emit significantly more than most households combined.
