Maryland lawmakers on Monday passed their “crown jewel” energy affordability package, which would save ratepayers at least $150 per year by cutting energy efficiency funding and tightening some utility regulations.
Democratic Gov. Wes Moore, who helped negotiate the bill’s parameters, is expected to sign it. On Monday, he contrasted the bipartisan legislation against President Donald Trump’s attacks on renewable energy and his war on Iran, which has resulted in spiking oil and gasoline prices.
“Over the past year, energy prices have soared and people are getting crushed,” Moore, a potential Democratic presidential contender, said in a press conference alongside state legislative leaders.
“The projects that are ready to go right now, the ones that would bring costs down the fastest, are also the ones that are under direct attack from the Trump-Vance administration,” the governor said, describing his policy as an “all-of-the-above approach.”
