Democratic Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey is assailing the Trump administration’s cancellation of most of a $1 million EPA grant intended to head off asthma attacks.
The money was intended to pay for mold removal and better ventilation in homes in a western part of the state, as well as community engagement and other purposes, Healey’s office said in a Friday news release.
As wildfires and droughts become more common, “it’s essential that we prioritize improving air quality and reducing causes of asthma,” Healey said in the release. “This is just their latest attack on the health and wellbeing of communities across our country.”
In an emailed response, EPA spokesperson Molly Vaseliou tied the administration’s decision to its broader offensive against programs tied to environmental justice.
