Federal employees may start President-elect Donald Trump’s next administration like they finished his last — working from home.

The Office of Personnel Management released guidance Friday to agency human resource officials encouraging them to sign off on telework for government staffers in the days leading up to Trump’s inauguration. Heavy security and road closures for the VIP event could stick civil servants in downtown Washington’s snarled traffic rather than working from the office.

In turn, it might be best to use “workplace flexibilities” to keep the federal government humming along, according to the personnel agency.

“In particular, OPM encourages agencies to operate under a maximum telework posture between January 16 through January 20,” said OPM official Veronica Hinton in the memo.
