Mike Lee tees up hearing on grid-bolstering bills

The discussion comes as senators negotiate a bipartisan permitting reform package.

The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee will hear testimony on a largely bipartisan slate of bills aimed at strengthening the electric grid, alongside two more partisan measures that have already passed the House.

Lawmakers are set to consider proposals from both parties to expand the use of grid-enhancing technologies and explore ways to support the growing energy demands of artificial intelligence.

Two officials from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission — Deputy General Counsel David Morenoff and Office of Electric Reliability Director Kal Ayoub — will testify.

Democrats may be particularly interested in the officials’ views on the “Reliable Power Act,” S. 3034, and the “GRID Power Act,” S. 465. The two partisan measures from Rep. Troy Balderson (R-Ohio) would overhaul FERC regulations to prioritize “baseload” power such as fossil fuels and nuclear.
