The Senate approved legislation Wednesday night to promote abandoned mine cleanups, study the Great Lakes and address ocean waste.
The bills passed by unanimous consent after clearing the Environment and Public Works Committee during a markup in October.
S. 2741, the “Legacy Mine Cleanup Act,” from Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.), would permanently authorize an EPA office to coordinate the cleanup of abandoned mines.
S. 2878, the “Great Lakes Fishery Research Reauthorization Act,” from Sen. Gary Peters (D-Mich.), would reauthorize research and monitoring programs.
