A state court judge has delivered a win to Minnesota’s efforts to hold the oil and gas industry and its allies financially responsible for the effects of climate change.

Minnesota District Judge Reynaldo Aligada ruled Friday that Attorney General Keith Ellison’s lawsuit against Exxon Mobil, Koch Industries and the American Petroleum Institute can proceed in state court.

The court denied an industry motion to dismiss the case, upholding four of the five counts that Ellison filed in June 2020.
