The Natural Resources Defense Council is laying off employees again.
The layoffs come after the New York-based green group conducted a separate round of staff cuts last year and as big environmental organizations have struggled financially amid fundraising downturns.
“Today, we are announcing that we are laying off 45 members of our staff,” NRDC leaders told staff Thursday in an email obtained by POLITICO’s E&E News. “Senior leaders reached out earlier this morning to schedule individual conversations with departing employees. This is a painful step, but one that is necessary in order to ensure the long-term financial wellbeing of our organization.”
The email was signed by Manish Bapna, the organization’s president and CEO, and NRDC Executive Director Christy Goldfuss.
