New York officials denied Elon Musk’s misleading accusation that millions of dollars in federal disaster funds had gone to “luxury hotels in New York
City to house illegal migrants.”
Musk accused the Federal Emergency Management Agency on Monday of using $59 million in disaster funds to house undocumented migrants in New York hotels in an inaccurate post on the social media site X.
Ninety minutes later, acting FEMA Administrator Cameron Hamilton used his official X account to amplify Musk’s post and wrote that “these payments have all been suspended from FEMA. Personnel will be held accountable.”
“None of these funds are being used for luxury services for people,” Liz Garcia, a spokesperson for New York City Mayor Eric Adams, told POLITICO’s E&E News.
