Elon Musk is expected to attend President Donald Trump’s Cabinet meeting Wednesday to discuss the so-called Department of Government Efficiency team’s efforts to slash the federal bureaucracy.
Musk is set to join the first official Cabinet meeting of Trump’s second term to discuss his work with the DOGE effort, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters Tuesday.
“Elon — considering he is working alongside the president and our Cabinet secretaries, this entire administration — will be in attendance tomorrow just to talk about DOGE’s efforts and how all of the Cabinet secretaries are identifying waste, fraud and abuse at their respective agencies,” Leavitt said ahead of the Wednesday gathering.
Musk’s expected attendance at the White House meeting is the latest indication of the tech executive’s prominence in the president’s orbit. Musk so far has played an influential role in Trump’s efforts to slash federal spending and to trim the federal workforce, moves that have prompted lawsuits and a backlash from Trump’s critics.
