Elon Musk said Tuesday that he would scale back his budget-slashing role with the Trump administration next month, adding that the fundamental work of the so-called Department of Government Efficiency “is mostly done.”

Speaking on a call with investors in Tesla, where Musk is CEO, he said he would remain involved on a part-time basis.

“Next month, May, my time allocation to DOGE will drop significantly,” he said.

He said he would continue to work a day or two per week on the project “for as long as the president would like me to do so … so waste and fraud doesn’t come roaring back.”
