A House Natural Resources subcommittee will return to discussions around wildfire this week, exploring how to expand the use of advanced technology in forest management.

The Subcommittee on Federal Lands holds a hearing on advanced technology as Republicans push to complete action on full committee Chair Bruce Westerman’s “Fix Our Forests Act.”

The Arkansas Republican’s bill, as well as a similar companion in the Senate, includes provisions to encourage advancements in wildfire detection, mitigation and communication. A pilot program for public-private partnerships is one such proposal, on top of other efforts that have been underway at the Forest Service.
