A senior House Democrat is calling for an investigation into alleged conflicts of interest in the Trump administration’s plans to dismantle a major scientific research center.

Colorado Rep. Joe Neguse is seeking an investigation after a whistleblower reported that the White House improperly negotiated a deal to transfer work from the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) to a private company.

Neguse, who serves as the House’s assistant Democratic leader, outlined the allegations in a letter to the National Science Foundation’s inspector general Monday.

“I remain deeply concerned about any attempts to improperly transfer public assets to private companies,” Neguse wrote. “As the independent oversight office for the National Science Foundation, I believe it is your duty to investigate the allegations detailed herein and to put an immediate end to any such activity.”
