Colorado Republican Rep. Greg Lopez, who was sworn into office earlier this week, has joined the Science, Space and Technology Committee.

Lopez won a special election to replace Republican Ken Buck, who left Congress in March and represented Colorado’s 4th District in the eastern part of the state.

“My district is home to a significant and robust tech and science industry which I have been granted the opportunity to represent; I intend to amplify the voice of those constituents through my position on this committee,” Lopez said in a statement Thursday.

Lopez, who also joined the Budget Committee, is not running to remain in Congress next year. Republican Lauren Boebert, who currently represents a western Colorado district, won a primary last month for the seat.
