Gov. Phil Murphy’s administration on Monday released a long-awaited update to its energy master plan.

The 89-page report argues for a series of “no-regrets” clean energy policies, but is less proscriptive than past iterations of the document, which had been a closely watched guidepost during the middle years of the governor’s two terms.

“This report is the culmination of our no-regrets strategy to tackling the challenges of energy affordability, supply and demand, and climate change,” Murphy said in a statement. “I am proud of all that we’ve been able to achieve to make our energy sector cleaner and more efficient over the past eight years. This report’s recommendations will help guide energy policy to new heights in the future.”

This plan has been in the works for nearly two years, though, and comes so late in his final term — which ends early next year — that its value may need to come from whether the incoming Mikie Sherrill administration uses it as a framework.
