The National Park Service has named a veteran of federal agency firefighting offices to lead the agency’s wildland fire operations program.
Chuck Russell has been working in fire management for over 20 years, including with the NPS Alaska region since 2018, according to a news release.
Russell has also held various positions at the Bureau of Land Management, including as a fire operations specialist with the North Zone BLM in Wyoming.
He received a Pulaski Award, which is given out for outstanding contributions in wildland firefighting from the National Interagency Fire Center, for his work in a fire management officer position at BLM’s Wind River/Bighorn Basin District in Wyoming. Russell is also a graduate of the BLM Leadership Academy, where he completed a work detail in the Interior Department’s secretary office, the release said.
