An Air Force veteran who has spent years as a civilian operational leader with the U.S. Army has been named superintendent of the National Mall and Memorial Parks, just months before President-elect Donald Trump will be sworn into office.
The National Mall is one of the sites in Washington that serves as a backdrop to the inauguration every four years.
As superintendent, Kevin Griess will oversee a budget of about $38 million and manage more than 200 employees and 3,000 volunteers.
The current superintendent, Jeff Reinbold, was selected earlier this year to become the CEO of the National Park Foundation.
