National Park Service employees based in the western United States have decided to join a prominent federal worker union and fierce critic of the Trump administration.

The National Treasury Employees Union announced Wednesday that it will represent staff in the agency’s Intermountain Region. The new affiliate, NTEU Chapter 347, will include roughly 650 employees that help manage 87 park units in Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Arizona and Montana.

NPS has been at the center of President Donald Trump’s efforts to reshape government. NTEU has been a frequent litigant against the administration, going to court to protect union contracts and block reclassification of civil servants.
