The Senate is slated to vote on a bipartisan nuclear energy package Tuesday, all but guaranteeing final passage more than a year after it was first introduced.
Senate leaders on Monday teed up debate and a final vote on S. 870, the “Fire Grants and Safety Act.” The bill would reauthorize federal firefighter programs and includes the nuclear package known as the “ADVANCE Act.”
A compromise between the House Energy and Commerce and Senate Environment and Public Works committees, the “Accelerating Deployment of Versatile, Advanced Nuclear for Clean Energy Act” has sweeping bipartisan support.
“I’m really excited about it,” Environment and Public Works ranking member Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), one of the bill’s original sponsors, said Monday. “I think it’ll be a big vote.”
