NOAA last month quietly hired as its top lawyer the former leader of an advocacy group that challenged the rapid pace of the Biden administration’s push for offshore wind.
Annie Hawkins, who until recently was executive director of the Responsible Offshore Development Alliance that represents the fishing industry, and is still listed on the group’s staff webpage as an adviser, apparently started work as NOAA’s general counsel in February, according to her LinkedIn page.
She is listed as NOAA’s general counsel on the agency’s webpage. Hawkins’ new position was first reported by Heatmap.
NOAA, an agency under the Commerce Department that manages the nation’s fisheries, did not appear to formally announce her hiring last month.
