Activists opposed to the growing U.S. offshore wind sector are forming a national coalition to fight projects, according to several groups involved in the effort.
The National Offshore-wind Opposition Alliance aims to be a more unified voice in protesting the industry, which has until now been fought by mostly local groups.
“We are taking a hard line. We are absolutely looking to stop the proliferation of offshore wind in the United States,” said Mandy Davis, the alliance’s founder and one of the organizers behind the separate REACT Alliance, a group opposed to offshore wind off the coast of central California. “When you have a national presence … it’s easier to get a little bit more recognition from a media standpoint, from a political standpoint.”
The alliance met for the first time Wednesday in a virtual call with roughly 20 organizations. It has not yet released a list of its members.
