John Dabbar, a longtime oil and gas industry veteran, is joining the Washington-based National Petroleum Council.
Dabbar announced the new posting Tuesday on LinkedIn. The NPC, a nearly 80-year-old federal body that became an advisory board to the Department of Energy in the 1970s, tapped Dabbar in July for its next executive director.
For now, Marshall Nichols will remain NPC executive director. After a transition period, Dabbar is set to take over in December.
Dabbar has worked for oil major ConocoPhillips for more than 20 years. That tenure included postings in Houston; Washington, D.C.; and Astana, Kazakhstan. Prior to that, he worked for BP in Azerbaijan and at the American Chamber of Commerce in Moscow, Russia, among other postings.
