John Dabbar has been with ConocoPhillips for over 20 years. The NPC is a federal advisory board for the Department of Energy.

John Dabbar, a longtime oil and gas industry veteran, is joining the Washington-based National Petroleum Council.

Dabbar announced the new posting Tuesday on LinkedIn. The NPC, a nearly 80-year-old federal body that became an advisory board to the Department of Energy in the 1970s, tapped Dabbar in July for its next executive director.

For now, Marshall Nichols will remain NPC executive director. After a transition period, Dabbar is set to take over in December.
