A House Natural Resources subcommittee will discuss legislation this week to halt a contentious Biden administration plan to protect wildlife refuges.

The bill, H.R. 8632, from Rep. Glenn Grothman (R-Wis.), would block the Fish and Wildlife Service’s proposed “Biological Integrity, Diversity, and Environmental Health” rule.

That rule has riled ranchers, farmers and sportsmen, who fear the loss of grazing land and fewer hunting and fishing opportunities.

The Biden administration has cited climate change, among other challenges, as the reason for the new regulation. It would cover about 850 million acres within the wildlife refuge system. The bill will get a hearing Tuesday before the Water, Wildlife and Fisheries Subcommittee.
