Panel to host field hearing on Oregon water plans

A House Natural Resources subcommittee will hold a field hearing Tuesday in central Oregon to discuss the region’s water supply, including ongoing efforts to balance agriculture with the needs of endangered species.

The Subcommittee on Water, Wildlife and Fisheries will meet in Redmond, Oregon, a city of about 37,000 located east of the Cascade mountain range and about 113 miles southeast of Portland.

Oregon Republican Rep. Cliff Bentz, the subcommittee’s chair, will host the panel, titled “It All Depends on Water: Examining Efforts to Improve and Protect Central Oregon’s Water Supply.”

Other members scheduled to attend include Reps. Lori Chavez-DeRemer (R), whose 5th District seat is home to the hearing location; and Val Hoyle (D-Ore.); Celeste Maloy (R-Utah); and Dan Newhouse (R-Wash.).
