The race for the top Democratic job on the House Natural Resources Committee is entering its third week, with Reps. Jared Huffman and Melanie Stansbury both trumpeting new endorsements.

Whoever wins will be at the forefront of resisting President-elect Donald Trump’s plans to claw back Democratic wins on clean energy, ramp up fossil production and gut protections for public lands and the environment.

The Democratic tug-of-war on Natural Resources comes as House Republicans look to settle as soon as this week the contest over who will lead the powerful Energy and Commerce Committee. Reps. Robert Latta of Ohio and Brett Guthrie of Kentucky have long been scouring for support.
