Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro announced plans Thursday to subsidize fossil fuel energy projects and renew his push for a policy negotiated by labor and environmental groups to cut emissions from electricity generation.
Proclaiming himself an “all-of-the-above” energy governor, Shapiro previewed how one of the Democratic Party’s rising stars plans to navigate climate politics as he leads the second-largest gas-producing state under President Donald Trump.
“When we generate more power, we generate more freedom,” Shapiro said in Pittsburgh on Thursday morning.
Shapiro announced a blend of tax credits and policy overhauls that will be part of the budget proposal he submits to the legislature Tuesday. The Shapiro administration didn’t offer a cost estimate for the plan.
