U.S. Capitol Police arrested eight anti-fossil-fuel activists at the Congressional Baseball Game in Washington on Wednesday.

The group Climate Defiance had promised to “shut it down” on social media. Police arrested demonstrators as they stormed the field at Nationals Park.

“Congress sends billions of public $$ to subsidize deadly fossil fuels — but the police are tackling us instead,” the group said on social platform X.

Protesters also tried to block entrances to the game. Capitol Police said those arrested would be charged with “Interference with a Member of the U.S. Capitol Police.”
