The Democrat will face a GOP challenger in November who says a case that has arrived at the Supreme Court could threaten the state’s energy industry.

A Colorado Democrat who has pledged to back climate lawsuits against the oil and gas industry will face off in the November attorney general race against a Republican who has called the litigation the “wrong fight.”

Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold, who last month told POLITICO she’d work to ensure the attorney general’s office “has the resources to bring climate-related lawsuits,” secured the Democratic nomination.

Griswold will run against El Paso County District Attorney Michael Allen, who won the Republican primary and was one of two candidates who criticized Democrats for backing climate litigation they said could raise prices and threaten Colorado’s energy industry.
