A new report predicts a drop in EPA enforcement efforts when President-elect Donald Trump takes office next month.
Released Monday by the advocacy group Environmental Integrity Project, the report analyzed pollution enforcement data from the past three presidential administrations to predict how the incoming administration’s EPA will attempt to address polluters.
The report found significant drops in enforcement during the first Trump administration, leading EIP to conclude that similar decreases are likely in the years to come.
The report also said that staffing and resource shifts outlined in the Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025, a conservative blueprint for policies for the next administration, could lead low-income communities and people of color to feel increased ramifications of pollution.
