Republican lawmakers in Washington have offered a flurry of legislation to reduce telework by federal employees and return them to the office.
This week, Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), a vocal critic of work from home that became prevalent during the Covid-19 pandemic, introduced a trio of bills to monitor telework at agencies as well as move federal office space outside of the nation’s capital.
The legislation aligns with President-elect Donald Trump’s goals to downsize the government and uproot the federal workforce as his administration takes charge later this month.
“I will be leading the fight in the Senate to disrupt the business-as-usual bureaucrats who spent the last four years out of office,” Ernst said in a statement. “The federal workforce has shown they clearly don’t want to work in D.C., and I am going to make their dreams come true.”
