For months Republicans have railed against the Biden administration’s pause of liquefied natural gas export project approvals, but on Tuesday, they mostly shrugged off a new Department of Energy study warning of the fossil fuel’s long-term impacts on prices and emissions.
Instead, they said they were looking ahead to January, when President-elect Donald Trump is widely expected to roll back the nearly year-long pause, which has been halted by a federal judge, and push other fossil fuel projects.
“No amount of bureaucracy or reports from unelected officials will stop President Trump from lifting Biden’s ban on LNG export permits on his first day in office,” said Rep. Carol Miler (R-W.Va.). “Removing Biden’s ban on LNG exports is the first step in lowering the cost of living, increasing reliability, and improving grid efficiency.”
Democrats had mostly positive things to say about the report, though some said its conclusions may have been too conservative.
