The Interior Department will inject $60 million in federal funds to shore up water conservation and drought programs in the Rio Grande Basin in New Mexico and Texas.

Interior Secretary Deb Haaland announced the funds Friday while in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

“The Biden-Harris administration is committed to making communities more resilient to the impacts of climate change, including the Rio Grande basin and the people, wildlife and economies that rely on it,” Haaland said in a statement.
