The House Republican Steering Committee voted Thursday to allow GOP Rep. Sam Graves of Missouri to serve a second term as chair of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
The decision, by voice vote, comes a week after steering granted Graves a waiver to bypass conference term limits that hold members to a total of three terms as panel leaders. Graves has spent two terms as ranking member and one as chair.
Graves has hammered home the case that he can move quickly to implement President-elect Donald Trump’s priorities in the new Congress, especially when it comes to the impending surface transportation bill.
A day prior, Rep. Rick Crawford (R-Ark.) abruptly dropped out of the race. Graves said Crawford told him he was relinquishing the bid before he announced his decision.
