Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is demanding the National Park Service release funds for a historic site tied to former President Theodore Roosevelt.
The New York Democrat sent a letter to NPS Comptroller and acting Director Jessica Bowron on Friday complaining that the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural National Historic Site in Buffalo, where Roosevelt was sworn in as president in 1901 after former President William McKinley’s assassination, has yet to receive federal funds for operations.
The park site could fail to pay its employees due to the delay in federal funding, a lag Schumer said “makes no sense and is unacceptable.”
“I’m calling on the NPS to immediately release the congressionally appropriated support needed to keep this historic house’s doors open so Americans can continue to access one of New York’s, and the nation’s, treasured historical sites,” he wrote.
