Republicans on the Senate Budget Committee advanced the nomination of Dan Bishop for deputy budget director Wednesday, about a week after he told them he supports withholding funds Congress has appropriated.

The committee voted 11-10, along party lines, to send Bishop’s nomination to the full Senate, where he could get a confirmation vote in the coming weeks.

A former member of Congress from North Carolina, Bishop would be second in command to Russ Vought, director of the White House Office of Management and Budget.
