The Senate on Thursday voted along party lines to advance the nomination of Whitney Hermandorfer for a federal appeals court seat.

Hermandorfer, President Donald Trump’s pick for the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, is poised to become the first judicial nominee confirmed of his second term. Lawmakers voted to wind down debate along party lines.

The nominee is currently director of the strategic litigation unit for the Tennessee attorney general’s office. She has clerked for Justices Samuel Alito and Amy Coney Barrett, and for Brett Kavanaugh when he was an appeals court judge.
