The Senate is poised to vote Thursday on legislation that would overturn a Biden administration energy efficiency rule for water heaters, after a Wednesday vote advancing it.

Senators voted 52-42 late Wednesday on a procedural motion setting up a final vote on H.J. Res 20 to block a December rule from the Biden administration’s Department of Energy setting efficiency standards for tankless water heaters.

The rule has been the subject of significant debate, including a fierce lobbying battle that pitted major water heater manufacturers against each other. The House passed the resolution under the Congressional Review Act in a bipartisan vote in February.
